Kitchen Table & Chairs Transformation

If you’ve read my blog before then you’ve also probably noticed that I haven’t updated in a very long time. That’s because I lost interest, got busy & ditched blogging. I’m only making a brief update because I’m so excited that I have finally finished my kitchen table set & am eager to share it! So here it goes…

Here are the BEFORE shots:

Vegas etc. June 2010 078Vegas etc. June 2010 079

And…the AFTER:

I do have a leaf & 2 end chairs that belong to this set but I didn’t want to dig them out of storage just for the pictures.

My process? 1st I primed, then painted then glazed the table & chairs. Lastly, once I found the right fabric at the right price, I re-upholstered the seats.

I’m so happy that I’m finished & I can move on to my next project Smile

Busy+Lazy=No Blogging

Yep I know, it’s been too long since I’ve blogged. My apologies!  The reason is a combination of me being busy, busy all day & therefore lazy at night. I do have some recipes to post & an upcoming Hope Chest that is begging for a transformation. Soon my friends, soon! As for now let me tell you what I’ve been up to…

Training like crazy for the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay Race that is coming up in mid June.

I have also been making plans to start back to college in August. I have been studying Algebra so I can test out of Algebra 1010 so I won’t have to re-take it.  (I took it when I was in college about 8 years ago)

My last excuse reason for not blogging is…

Have any of you watched this series? I LOVE it!! I got sucked into the 1st season & just couldn’t stop! I must admit, I now have a little crush on King Henry 8 Winking smile Ooo La La.

Anyhoo..I have finished season 1 & haven’t gotten season 2 yet, so I should be freed up to blog some more.

I have pics of the Hope Chest that’s waiting for my attention. I’ll post them later when I have more time. Right now I have to hurry & get my butt to the gym. Thanks for being visiting! See you sooner than later :)

Tortellini Pepperoncini Salad

Here is another one of my friend Jeni’s awesome recipes. She is an endless source for healthy & delicious recipes. I went out to Colorado to visit last year & this is one of the dishes she made for us. During the Spring & Summer time “comfort food” has a new meaning for me. I crave fresh & light dishes full of flavor. This dish delivers it all!
March 2011 069
Tortellini Pepperoncini Salad
1- 9 oz. package of Tortellini
2 C. Tomatoes- I use grape size, cut in half
2 C. Fresh Spinach Leaves, slightly chopped
1/2 C. Pepperoncini Peppers chopped
1/3 C. fresh grated Parmesan Cheese
1/4 C. Basil, chopped
1 can Kidney Beans
1/3 C. Balsamic Vinegar
2 Tbsp. Lemon juice- fresh
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
Black Pepper
Cook Tortellini according to package. Mix lemon juice, olive oil, balsamic vinegar & pepper together. Mix all other ingredients in a large bowl. Pour dressing over salad and mix it all together. Serve right away or chill then serve, tastes great both ways. I add extra balsamic vinegar on top when I serve mine. You could also add some red pepper flakes for heat.
This dish is perfect to bring to a BBQ or picnic since it is oil based & doesn’t have any mayo that would get gross in the sun.
Hope that you try it & LOVE it! Thanks for stopping by.

Wine Cake

This Wine Cake is one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had! Okay, I don’t want to over sell it & have you be disappointed, but it is awesome. Trust me. Back when I worked in a dental office, this is one of the treats that the other ladies would bring in for everyone to share. I am so glad I got the recipe from her because, like I said, it’s awesome. For those of you who don’t drink alcohol, don’t worry. You can enjoy this too, since the alcohol, of course, cooks out.

Thrift Store Finds & a Creation

Well hello! I’m not sure why it’s taken me a week to blog about this but let’s just say, I’ve been busy.  Last week, while I was browsing around the thrift store, I found a few things that seemed like they’d come in handy.
March 2011 056
I haven’t used the gold candlestick yet but I have created something with those 2 wooden bowls. I’ve had pedestals on the brain lately, so…
March 2011 118
Here’s how it all went down:
1st. I sanded the bowls. One had some rough edges & the other had some nasty gold paint on the inside.
2nd. I glued them together using the infamous E6000, weighted it together & leveled it.

P.S. That book isn’t as helpful as you may think.
3rd. I used 2 coats of Krylon Primer.

4th. I painted it with 3 coats of Krylon Bright Idea, Gloss.
March 2011 104
5th. I mixed up some orange & white craft paint with a little water & painted it on for some depth & texture using a glazing technique.
March 2011 105
6th. Distressed it using some sandpaper & glazed it with Ralph Lauren black glaze. If you want a good place to learn about glazing, click HERE.
7th. I painted 2 coats with Krylon Clear Finish.
Once again, the finished creation…

I used the yellow paint to tie in with those flowers in the painting. I really need to brighten up this shelf! Once it’s finished, I’ll blog all about it.
I love how the dish turned out!  Thanks for visiting & enjoy your upcoming week!!
